Who can use it
You need to be at least 13 (or the minimum age for online services where you live) to create an account, and at least 18, or have a parent or guardian's permission, to buy credits. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
How the wall works
- The wall is 1,000 × 1,000 pixels. Placing art on an area costs 1 credit a pixel and includes 24 hours of protection.
- A placement is a licence to show your art in that area for as long as it survives. It is not ownership of pixels. Anyone can place over it, but only by covering all of it: a placement is replaced whole, never in part. While it is protected, they pay to refund the unused protection to whoever funded it; once protection ends, it can be replaced at base price.
- Anyone can fund more protection for any placement. Shields, when applied, block one replacement attempt each. A blocked attempt costs the challenger a non-refundable challenge fee (currently 10% of the attempt's price, at least 100 credits).
- You can move your own placements. Every move uses a move credit: you get one each time you place art (and sometimes for visiting), and it can move any of your placements. A move into empty space costs nothing more. Moving onto other placements replaces them as a new placement would: you pay their unused protection to whoever funded it, plus a takeover fee (currently 25% of your placement's base price). Shields block moves too.
- You can also upload and place art through the API with a personal key. A key acts as you and spends your credits, so keep it secret. Automated use follows the same rules, prices and limits as the website.
- Replaced art is not erased: its paint stays on the wall beneath newer art and shows wherever that art doesn't cover it or is transparent. It is no longer anyone's placement, so it has no protection and costs nothing to place over. Only removal by moderation takes it off the wall.
- Replaced and moved placements stay in the wall's public history: the replay and the history of each block. Snapshot links are unlisted: anyone with the link can open one, but they are not listed, linked or indexed anywhere.
- We may change prices and rules for future purchases. Changes never take away protection someone has already paid for.
Credits
- Credits are prepaid and only spent on BuyMeBlocks. They have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn, transferred or exchanged.
- $1 buys 100 credits. Larger bundles include bonus credits, which work exactly like the credits you pay for.
- Purchases are final except where the law says otherwise. If a payment is refunded or disputed, the matching share of that bundle's credits, bonus included, is removed, even if that leaves a negative balance.
- Unused protection refunded when a placement is replaced comes back as credit, not money.
- The first time you open a wall signed in, it may give you free credits usable only on that wall (100 on the main wall and on The World; only the first few people from one network each day), and more come from visiting the wall and from inviting friends. When someone joins through your share or invite link within 7 days of opening it and places their first block, you earn a Free Block: one block on any open Head to Head board. If they then buy a bundle of $10 or more within 30 days of joining, you also get 500 bonus credits two weeks after that purchase. These rewards are limited each day and each month, and are not given if the purchase is refunded or disputed or appears to come from the inviter (for example, the same card paid on another account, or both accounts were made from the same network). Free and other promotional credits can pay for placing art and for fees (takeover and challenge fees), never for protection or refunds to others, and may expire.
Your art and the content rules
You keep the rights to what you upload. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, resize, crop, display and distribute it as part of BuyMeBlocks, including on the wall, in previews, snapshots, replays and the wall's history, for as long as it is part of the service. You confirm you have the right to grant this.
Do not upload or link to:
- nudity or sexual content, graphic violence, gore or self-harm;
- hate symbols, slurs, or harassment of anyone;
- someone's personal information (addresses, phone numbers, IDs, private photos);
- scams, phishing, QR codes that lead to them, malware, or illegal goods and activity;
- work you do not have the rights to;
- anything posing as BuyMeBlocks or its staff.
The wall is public and can be seen by anyone, including children. Usernames, profiles and links follow the same rules, and anyone can report a username.
Moderation
Every upload is screened, automatically and sometimes by a person, before it can be placed. The wall itself is screened too, because pieces that are fine on their own can be arranged into a picture that isn't: art that helps form such a picture can be hidden automatically. We can remove any art, name or link at any time, including from the wall's history, and suspend accounts that break these rules. Removed or hidden art is not refunded. To report something, use the Report link on any placement or the report form.
Copyright
We respond to copyright notices as described on the takedown page, and we close the accounts of people who repeatedly upload work that is not theirs.
No guarantees
BuyMeBlocks is provided as it is, especially during the beta. We do not promise that it will always be available, that placements will survive for any particular time, or that the service will exist forever. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Changes and ending
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when. If a change matters, we will tell you before it applies. You can stop using BuyMeBlocks at any time, and we may close accounts that break these terms.
